College Life

What is there to say about this week? hm..... Well college is proving to not be as hard as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, I'm still having issues. Like my two 70% on math quizzes. It was really hard for me to take that in, considering in high school I got A' most of the time. It even harder when other people expect you to be getting A's too. Oh well. I'll get the hang of it eventually. It is just that all the quizzes I have taken for my classes are no more than 5 questions long. If you miss just one you are already down to a B( by high school grading standards). Apparently my 70%'s are still B's in the college grading scale. Who knows. Wednesday night I did get a nice dinner thanks to my wonderful sister and brother. I have no idea what I would be doing without them. I feel like I do rely on then a lot but then again, I guess that is what brothers and sister are for. I just LOVE living so close to them. I don't get to see them everyday but in one simple phone call I could see them in 5 minutes. How awesome is that? I went from 2 hours to five minutes! Actually, it is exactly 4 miles from my dorm to my brothers house. ha ha. I really have missed my brother. I haven't really gotten to spend much time with him since he left for college when I was 9. i can still remember that day like it was yesterday. It is funny the things that stick in your head from when you were little. Another bright part of my week was just last night. I got to see Mrs. S! It was so wonderful to sit and talk with her. I haven't seen her in quite a while and definitely needed to catch up. There are so many things that I needed to tell her about since we don't have that time in the library anymore. I even got to see Noah. What a cute kiddo he is. Between the "scoot" and his drooling you can't resist him. Tonight I will probably be driving to Jeff City. I promised Adam I would come to one of his softball games and now that they are on Friday nights, it makes it a little easier. Saturday- MIZZOU vs. Nevada. I'm sure I will be tailgating and then game time at 11:30am! This will most likely be the last game I get to attend since I will start working at the Tiger Team Store. Gotta make money. Well I think that is all for now. I'm sitting in a computer lab in the basement of the Arts and Science Building. I should probably go start studying for that math quiz I have in 2 hours. Off I go. Hope everyone has a good weekend!

MIZZOU- 52...SEMO- 3

Two weeks down. So far, so good. Went to the first home football game this saturday. I didnt buy the student season tickets because I thought I would have to work every home game. Luckily, two girls I work with bought their season tickets and did have to work this game. So I got to sit in the crazy student section for my first football game as a student. It was so different going as a student rather than just as any other fan. I could do the chants and all the hand motions. All without feeling completely stupid. :0) The picture of Chase and I is my favorite. Hard to believe last season he was a teeny tiny baby. Auntie Nell sure loves him! Well thats all for now. Love ya'll!

go tigers!

College life is great! Who knew I would like being on my own so much? :0) Well that isn't completely all true. I definately miss my mom. I've been sick twice since I moved in and have wanted my mom both times. Its hard not seeing her every morning and night. Thank goodness for cell phones! I love you mom!

As for my classes. I did not realize how light of a load 12 credit hours was until this first week of school. I love 2 of my classes, the other is alright, and one I hate. My Intimate Relationship & Marriage class is so much fun! ha ha I know it sounds a little crazy but my professor is so down to earth and funny she makes the class worth while. I also really like my Intro to Meteorology class. My professor is the meteorologist here on the main news channel in Columbia. Its weird to get up in the morning to find out what the weather is and see him talking to you.

Even in class if you close your eyes it sounds like your watching the weather channel. He just has that voice. Its funny. My math class is just like any other. I have a feeling it is going to get pretty tough at times but so far so good. As for my history class. I have lectures two times a week and then I go to discussion group once a week. I try so hard to listen during the lectures but I feel like he is speaking a foreign language. What he says just doesnt fit together. I feel like he is saying a whole bunch of random thoughts. I hope I get used to that. All of my classes but one are really big. Over 400. But ya know what? It really isnt too bad. If you sit somewhat towards the front and listen to the professor it doesnt seem much different than any other class. I like it. Its weird being able to text during a class or to watch a person walk out of class. I feel like it is so rude! Its a weird transition from high school to college. But so far so good! Ive met some pretty good friends. There is Tom and Shelby who are in two of my classes. They are pretty cool and I enjoy spending time with them. I hope I get the chance to know them more this semester so we can become closer friends. There is also a guy on the floor above me in my residence hall that is really cool. His name is Brandon. Every once in a while he'll come down to our room and just hang out. We'll all just get on our computers and talk. Its nice to have someone like that. Even when Em is gone I just climb one flight of stairs and go say hey.

Adam and I have been hanging out a little more than I thought we would be. Weird. I think a part of me feels bad for not being there when he was going through all that pain with his dad. I was a part of that family. Less than 2 years ago I would have considered him my dad and even now it hurts me to think about. I feel so fake saying that. Its hard to talk to him about how I miss his dad when I know how much he is hurting. None the less, we're friends and its nice to have him there. This weekend when everyone went home and the big Missouri vs. Illinois was on, Adam drove up to watch it with me. He is just so easy to talk to. Im not afraid to say anything to him. He has been the longest, truest friend Ive ever had. Emily is my best friend and Ive known her for a very long time but we havent really been best friends since 9th grade. Adam has been there since 7th grade. Its weird. Hes been there for me through the hardest and happiest of times so for us to be friends, it doesnt really seem that crazy. Another issue Im having a hard time dealing with is how old Larry (Adams dad) was when he passed away. Larry's dad (Adams grandpa) passed away when he was I think 58 and Larry was only 52. Where does that leave Adam? I know that is far from now but it still bothers me. I dont know what I would do without Adam. Im trying so hard not to let those feelings come back but its beginning to get harder. Tomorrow I think Im going to drive to Jeff City and visit with his mom. I haven't seem her since the fineral and I think its time to go say hi. I miss her and that house. I used to love driving to Jeff City. It was like a mini vacation. I loved waking up on Saturday morning smelling biscuits and sausage Cindy & Larry (Adam's parents) had made for breakfast. I felt like there was no care in the world. Sitting at the kitchen table, just the 4 of us. I just dont know what to think. I screwed up. I should have been there for Adam. I should have called his mom. I should have gone to visit sooner. Now its too late and I dont know what to do. Im glad Adam had other people that were there for him but it wasn't me. We were and still are so close I feel like it should have been my responsibility to be there. I dont know how he is coping with this. His dad. I cant even imagine losing my dad right now. I would be crushed. I certainly wouldnt be like Adam is now. But I guess that is just the kind of person he is. A wonderful person. A wonderful and thoughtful friend.

Well Im done rambling. I think this is by far the longest blog I have ever written. I really needed to let some things out. I even cried some this morning thinking about Larry and that is when I realized my online journal was going to get a visit today. Thanks to anyone who read this all the way through. I hope everyone had a good holiday weekend. I look forward to hearing from you. Love you all!

And so it begins...

my college life. Tomorrow is the first day of class and I am SHAKING IN MY BOOTS! I've waited for this moment for as long as I can remember. I've always wanted to become a MIZZOU Tiger and here I am just that. It is so exciting. Along with my new life, comes a new me. Sam and I broke up last week. Im sure most of you are just astonished, but really it was the best thing for me. I needed to be on my own. There was Adam for a long time and then there was Sam. I just want to learn who I really am. College is a new experience and I am welcoming it with open arms. Working at the bookstore has been both exciting and exhausting. Im making money which of course is the important thing, but also meeting ALOT of new people.
Last night I went out for the first time as a college student and I had a blast. Another very close friend of mine, Stephanie transferred to MIZZOU from Missouri State and I could not be more excited. She is living in a house with two roommates and I went over to check it out last night. Em came with me and believe it or not so did Adam. Crazy, huh? After all this time of being apart we finally have come to realize that we were so close to one another and know eachother so well that we giving friends a try. So far, its been great. Its nice to have a guy to talk to let alone, one that knows you so well. Well that is all I got for ya so far. Wish me luck for tomorrow!

Hatch Residence Hall- MOVE IN DAY!

I am officially a freshman @ MIZZOU. I moved in to my residence hall today and while it was SOOO stressful Im glad Im here. Just tonight my brother called and needed to bring me something. He was here in less than 10 minutes. What a relief that is. I've missed living close to him since he left for college way back when I was 9. Without his help or my sister in laws, I would have lost it. Even though they were the ones driving me absolutely CrAzY!!! ha ha Well not much else to say besides the face that Im here and enjoying some peace and quiet while Emily is off doing her sorority stuff. If you know anything about me, you know that is not my forte. Im def missing my nephew. I got to spend everyday with him since I got here last Tuesday taking care of him since he was sick. I miss him so stinkin much it ridiculous. Guess Ill just have to go see him tomorrow. :0) Here are a few pics of our room so far. Kinda crazy still but we're working on it.

New Job. New Home. Here so soon?

The past few days I have been at my brothers house because I had an interview for the University Bookstore. Exciting? I know! To make it even more excited, I GOT THE JOB!!! I will be making money, safely (at least safer than off campus) on campus. Thank goodness. I knew I had to work but I definately didn't want to work off campus. Other places would close a lot later and I knew my mom would FREAK OUT if I had to walk back to my residence hall in the dark and by myself. According to Nicole and Lisa, I need " a rape whislt and mace." I guess they would be smart things to buy. So at this new job, I have to work at ALL home football games which totally stinks. I was really looking forward to being a student there and going to the games. Ive been to plenty of games, but I knew it would be different as a student. Oh well. There is something to make up for that. I will be working at the Tiger Team Store which is located at the football stadium so Ill be in the atmosphere of it all. Ill also get to ride around on go carts selling t shirts to people also. So all in all. It wont be horrible.

OF course, I couldn't write an entry without mentioning my beautiful baby nephew. I got to babysit him last night and even drive him to school this mornin. It was great. I think he is truly starting to recognize how I am. Its the best feeling in the world! I also got my yearbook this afternoon and parents or family members have the option of writing a note to graduates that goes in the back of the yearbook. CHASE WROTE ME ONE!!! Its so sweet. In the picture he is kissing me on the cheek with a message that reads, " Congratulations Aunt Nelle! See you at MIZZOU! Love, Chase" I was super exited. I have the best brother and sister in the world.

Next Wednesday is my last day home. Im leaving with a car full of stuff and heading to Columbia. I have to do orientation for my new job and I was alredy moving in next Sunday so it just made more sense to stay there. My parents will be following me a few days later.

So thats all for now.

Love you all
